Media take the important roles in teaching and learning
activities. Nowadays there are so many applications, webs, and any other
technology that teacher can use as a learning media in the classroom. Media aim
to support the teaching and learning process in the class. As preservice
English teachers we need to be creative and select the interesting media for
our students. Speaking is one of the skills that should be mastered by students.
One of the media that we can use to teach speaking is Vlog. Many people now how
to make a Vlog but not all of them know how to use it as a leaning media. Now
in this article we will explain how a Vlog being a media to develop English
speaking skill.
Vlog is a blog in which the postings
are primarily in video form and the sources from youtube. Vlog allows you to
record a video or story including your daily activity and share it with others
by uploaded on youtube. Today Vlog become a famous online website which is
everyone can reach and everyone can make. there are so many people outside who
have a Vlog and know how to make Vlog, but people usually make it just for fun
and sharing something which not has contribute to academic purposes.
Through this media language learning
course, We want to introduce Vlog as media that is able to develop students’
speaking skill of giving opinion. Usually, teacher will point out the students
and ask them to speak English in front of the class. This activity seems to
become a night-mare for students who are not able to speak English because of
their anxiety and nervousness. But today we could use a more sophisticated
technology to solve that problem. using Vlog, we just only need a smartphone or camera and record our
opinion. So, students will feel freely when express their opinion in front of
the camera and they also able to practice as much as possible and make sure
their speaking is good enough before uploaded on Youtube and serve it as a Vlog
To implement Vlog in the class there
are several steps that teacher should apply in the class. Here some steps to
implement Vlog in the class:
1.
Teacher explain about the topic (the expression of how
to give an opinion)
2.
Teacher explain for don’t make a hateful comments
3.
Teacher shows a Vlog about someone who give opinion.
4.
Ask students to record a Vlog about giving opinion as
an assignment
5.
Teachers explain how students’ work
will be assessed
6.
In the last step, teachers explain that comment, like,
and share will be graded. So, the students will be motivated to create a good
Vlog with a great effort.
We believe by using Vlog as media in teaching speaking is
able to develop students’ speaking skill and it is also enhance students’ motivation.
By recording their speech students will feel freely to express their opinion
and it is a good way to avoid students’ anxiety. By those reason we recommended
this media for all of teachers who need the sophisticated technology in the
